    What is one less than?

1 less than means we need to subtract or count one less number of
the given numbers. Here, we will learn counting one less than upto number 10.

Examples of counting 1 less than up to number 10 are given as follows.

    A few more examples…..

    1. I have 3 pencils. I gave 1 pencil to my sister. How many pencils
    do I have now?

3 pencils and count 1 less pencil to it.

    One Less Than 3

Therefore, now I have 2 pencils with me.

    2. In a candle-set, count the number of candles and then decrease
1 less than to the given object.

    One Less Than 5

We can see there are 5 candles in the set and count 1 less candle
to it. i.e. 1 less than 5 are 4 candles.

At an early age kids will learn counting using physical
objects or pictures. We all know basic counting is one of the key skills for
children after identifying numbers and their values. Counting 1 less than means
counting back by one and the number decreases.

Tips to learn one less than….

In order to learn 1 less than the given number, students need to practice counting. Kids need to be careful while counting. Count loudly how many objects are given in that set; suppose 7 then decrease back by 1 of that number ( i.e., 1 less than 7 is 6) and write the answer as 6.

However, kids need to be confident and clear while counting the set of objects (i.e. count objects up to 10) and then subtract 1 from that number.

    Fill in the boxes.
