To accelerate the development and use of blockchain in Malaysia, a new government-backed national operation and roadmap have been launched: the Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI).
The neutral and trusted platform for digital services and cross-sector innovation is jointly developed by MIMOS Berhad, the national applied R&D centre and MY E.G. Services Berhad, a digital services provider, leveraging Zetrix‘s proven blockchain technology that already facilitates cross-border transactions and digital identity applications across Asia.
Powered by Zetrix, an established public layer-1 blockchain network with proven public and enterprise sector deployment across Asia, the infrastructure serves as the foundation layer that aims to simplify the creation of blockchain applications across multiple chains — including Ethereum, Solana and enterprise networks.
Zetrix’s advanced blockchain architecture enables MBI to deliver unparalleled interoperability, security, and transaction efficiency that meets both government and commercial requirements. By offering seamless interoperability, MBI allows developers and businesses in Malaysia to build secure, scalable and user-friendly blockchain-based services without needing to navigate the technical complexity of each platform.

“The launch of Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure represents a watershed moment for blockchain adoption in Malaysia and across ASEAN,” said TS Wong, MYEG group managing director and Zetrix co-founder. “As the core chain powering MBI, Zetrix was purpose-built to facilitate seamless cross-border and cross-chain transactions with enterprise-grade security and scalability.
“This national infrastructure will dramatically reduce development friction while creating a unified digital ecosystem that connects governments, businesses, and citizens. By integrating Zetrix’s capabilities with multiple blockchain networks, we’re laying the crucial foundation for Malaysia’s digital economy leadership in the region. Ultimately, MBI empowers the next generation of blockchain innovations that will benefit all Malaysians.”
Use cases
MBI will underpin a broad range of use cases, from supply chain traceability and digital identity to decentralised finance and tokenisation of digital assets—supporting the next generation of digital services across public and private sectors. Services such as the MyDigitalID will also benefit from MBI’s integrated capabilities, ensuring verifiability, accessibility and interoperability, which in turn will enable identity verification for complex cross-border and commercial service use cases.
In tandem with the Malaysian MADANI vision, which is guided by core values of sustainability (Kemampanan), prosperity (Kesejahteraan), innovation (Daya Cipta), respect (Hormat), trust (Keyakinan), and compassion (Ihsan); MBI plays a vital role in enhancing the nation’s global competitiveness in blockchain development. It also strengthens national efforts to foster:
- Digital Inclusivity: lowering the barrier to entry and allowing blockchain-based services to be accessible to everyone
- Public-Private Collaboration: supporting innovation through unified infrastructure
- Economic Resilience: building trust through transparent and efficient digital transactions for sustained interest

Dr Saat Shukri Embong, MIMOS acting president and group chief executive officer, said: “MBI will drive competitiveness, positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in blockchain adoption and development, potentially attracting investment and highly-skilled talent. More importantly, it embodies digital inclusivity, making blockchain technology accessible to all Malaysians, regardless of their technical expertise.
“This streamlined approach enhances liquidity by aggregating resources from various platforms, enabling faster, more efficient, and cost-effective trading. As a catalyst for Malaysia’s digital transformation, MBI is driving technological progress and contributing to the greater well-being of Malaysians and the nation.
“This platform is a testament to MIMOS’, MOSTI’s, and the MADANI Government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of this transformative technology are shared equitably, driving sustainable economic growth and societal progress.”
Contributing regional digital infrastructure
The launch of MBI will help to reinforce Malaysia’s position as a contributor to regional digital infrastructure efforts, providing a scalable, trusted foundation that can serve as a reference point for interoperability and governance across borders. It is designed to enable broader participation with simplified user experiences and increased accessibility for non-technical users.
Built on Zetrix’s blockchain-based identifier (BID) and verifiable credentials (VC) protocols, MBI inherits critical security and compliance features that have been battle-tested in cross-border commercial applications. Zetrix’s existing international blockchain corridors provides Malaysia immediate access to a mature technical ecosystem and established international network, accelerating the country’s blockchain capabilities.
Early adopters include Masverse, Cokeeps, iTrace, Heitech Padu, amongst other industry partners. Continued collaboration between governments, industries, academia and innovators is essential to bring this initiative to fruition. The combined efforts will be essential for Malaysia to establish an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient blockchain ecosystem regionally.
